How To Remove Candle Wax From Clothing

One thing we’ve learned over the years is that not every trick works every time. Rather than attempt to offer one single suggestion on how to remove candle wax from clothing, we’ve listed several possible solutions. We do not guarantee that any of these tips will work, but the sources we researched claim they will.


How To Remove Candle Wax From Clothing – Tip #1 - First, put the item into the freezer for a couple hours. Once the item is frozen, use a blunt object such as a butter knife to scrape off as much of the wax as possible. Next, lay several layers of paper towel under the fabric where the wax is. Also lay one layer of paper towel on top of the wax. Iron with HOT clothes iron for 5 seconds. Keep shifting the paper towel around and iron the wax into the paper towel. Continue until no more wax is being lifted from the article, Finally, launder as usual. NOTE: some oil-based waxes may leave an oily stain even after the wax has been removed.


How To Remove Candle Wax From Clothing – Tip #2 – Use Ronsonol lighter fluid. The fluid may discolor certain fabrics.


How To Remove Candle Wax From Clothing – Tip #3 – Put ice on the wax so it will freeze, then peel it off. You can also try putting the entire article of clothing in the freezer.


How To Remove Candle Wax From Clothing – Tip #4 – Scrape off as much wax as possible then use a commercial degreaser such as Penzoil. If the wax is oil-based, washing the article before the oil is removed will just set the stain and it won’t EVER come out. Don’t wash until all of the oil is gone.


How To Remove Candle Wax From Clothing – Tip #5 – If there’s no metal on the clothing (no metal buttons or zipper), heat it in the microwave. Blot the wax with paper towel to remove as much as possible. If necessary, repeat the procedure. If the wax dye left a stain, try commercial degreaser. I use Dawn dishwashing liquid and it worked fine.


How To Remove Candle Wax From Clothing – Tip #6 – Place a newspaper under the article. Place more newspaper over the wax then use a clothes iron on the hottest setting. The newspaper will draw the wax out of the clothing.


How To Remove Candle Wax From Clothing – Tip #7 – Try the products called Oops or Goof Off. They work on wax crayons and usually work on candle wax.
